My name is Holly Baker and I am proud to have been a member of the Humanex Academy team since 2006. I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and very shortly after moved to Parker, CO where I grew up. I did not venture far for college, moving to Boulder to study history and education, and graduating with a history degree and Colorado Teacher’s License for Secondary Social Studies Education. I completed my student teaching at an alternative expeditionary school where my belief in the merits of that approach to education was solidified. My love of travel led me to move to Kauai, Hawaii after graduation where I started substitute teaching. Island fever, however, taught me pretty quickly that Colorado will always be my home base. Upon returning home, I substitute taught in DPS as well as right here at Humanex Academy. A long- term substitute position for a co-workers’ maternity leave provided the opportunity for me to see what a special community Humanex Academy offered for a wonderfully unique student body. I started a full time position the next school year and have been with Humanex ever since. During my tenure here, I also pursued and attained an added endorsement for special education on my teacher’s license as well as attending numerous professional development seminars which have increased my skill bank. I am deeply committed to the holistic and experiential learning environment provided by Humanex Academy and hope to be part of the strong teaching team here for years to come.
