Humanex’s primary academic goal is to teach core curriculum within a balanced framework that encourages critical thinking, creative reflection and both basic and college-level skills. We strive to challenge each student in ways unavailable in a traditional and public school education.
At Humanex, students receive individualized instruction designed to employ each student’s educational strengths in every class. Our staff is highly trained in diverse teaching methods. For example, great attention is paid to whether a student is strongest in kinesthetic, visual or auditory learning, and instruction and assessments are offered that fit that learning style. The instructional approach implemented by teachers is multi-faceted and utilizes a combination of instructional delivery and assessment models to ensure students master the skills and content being taught. Humanex’s learning consultant assesses students upon enrollment and is a consistent resource for staff in expanding their teaching techniques.
Humanex teachers also pay attention to the three different brain types that impact learning: right-, left- and whole-brained. Students benefit when teachers recognize how uniquely different students think. Each of these brain types requires a different instructional approach from our experienced and highly trained Humanex staff.
For example, the most dominant brain type we see is the right-brained learner. Right-brained learners are often categorized as strongly visual, and they process information in an intuitive and simultaneous way. As such, many of the traditional teaching approaches are not effective for this type of learner. Because right-brained learners visualize images in their brain and can have long-term memory of these images, they don’t usually perform well on sequential or linear tasks. This can be seen most often in math class where students struggle with sequencing and steps. The right-brained learner often learns in a holistic manner and needs assessment that fit that quality. They learn much better by demonstration than by explanation. When appropriate, Humanex teachers teach with these traits in mind, making sure to respond to each student’s needs through the assignments they present, the language they use and the assessments they offer.
Humanex also offers a wide variety of courses presented through a framework based on helping students develop internal motivation. Students are not required to do homework, as all class work can be done during the class period. However, homework is always available to the motivated student, and effort is made to help students become more motivated. The models and strategies used are research-based and effective in ensuring student success.
