College Acceptance
Humanex Academy excels at preparing students for life beyond high school. We offer honors and college-bound classes in all subject areas, and, on average, 75 percent of Humanex Academy graduates enter a two- or four-year college. Many of our students fall under the category of twice-gifted and intellectually would have no difficulty academically. . However, often students lack the executive function or emotional balance that is required for college. Humanex recognizes those deficiencies and seeks to correct them.
Class Structure
Humanex structures its classes to prepare students for college. Each student works from a syllabus, very similar to a syllabus that college students receive at the beginning of each semester. This helps students to learn to budget their time and work at a pace that will allow them to meet their goals. Humanex’s approach prompts the student to find internal motivation to complete the class rather than have a teacher do the work for them, and Humanex Academy staff members respond to students in ways that help them develop internal motivation.
Research Skills
Students are also required to complete a research class to graduate. While most schools have a research requirement, Humanex provides significant one-on-one instruction to each student. Any student struggling in a certain area receives direct, targeted instruction, whether that is help analyzing ideas, researching facts, determining the validity of sources, or constructing an argument. Furthermore, students learn the grammar, writing and editing skills they will need to be successful writers.
Most of our students are fully capable of succeeding in college; they just haven’t been taught in a manner that utilizes their strengths. Our college preparatory approach looks very different from traditional programs because our students learn differently than traditional students. As a result, our students leave high school with greater confidence in their own learning abilities
