The courses offered at Humanex Academy are designed for individual educational excellence for every student. Although Humanex enrolls students from grades seven through 12, the skill levels of our students range from third grade through college. Many of our students are twice gifted, and may excel in one subject area while struggling greatly in another.
Our individualized academic approach ensures that students work on materials at the level at which they can be appropriately challenged and experience success. We offer a wide variety of courses constructed within a self-paced curriculum and implemented by a staff highly trained in diverse teaching methods based in brain function research. Humanex students benefit from kinesthetic, visual, auditory and other teaching methods that are often absent in public school settings, as teachers adapt course materials and instructional techniques based on each student’s needs. Courses focus on specific content related to the Colorado Model Content Standards and on skills necessary for academic and career success.
This flexibility in curriculum and instruction is one reason so many of our students are admitted to college. Our gifted students are sufficiently challenged, which maintains their interest in school, while students below grade level benefit and show more rapid growth because of the one-on-one instruction they receive.
Our course handbook lists the majority of the courses currently offered at Humanex Academy, although teachers are constantly developing new courses to pique our students’ interests. In fact, our instructors have developed courses specifically to cover topics of interest to current students. Some of our newest courses include comic book art, music appreciation, weather and climate, and military history. Older students may also take courses at one of many local community colleges to pursue interests beyond the more than 150 courses offered at Humanex.
Our graduation requirements identify the credits that all students must earn in order to receive their high school diploma.
